To our dear customers & community,
Regulars, new customers who just discovered us, and everyone who has known us as the adorable, sustainable, hip kids store since we opened over 30 years ago and through the multiple owners and 5 locations we’ve had since then. In May of 2020 we began our stay in Chophouse Row, allowing us the joy of being a third place for families in a city with more dogs than kids. Thanks to the community and our regulars it has been a lovely place to foster and maintain those connections. With so much gratitude, we are announcing that we will be ending our time here and closing our brick and mortar location next week, with our last day on February 1st 2026.
This decision doesn't come lightly, of course! There are a number of reasons why we need to take a break from in-person retail: the change in foot traffic in the neighborhood in the last 2 years, alongside the gradual slowing in sales that corresponded. It has been increasingly more difficult to make up for it, especially with the cost of goods continuing to rise over the last six months. We have been heavily impacted by the mess of tariffs on imported goods, which have prevented us from getting some of your favorite toys and clothes back into the shop (thank you, current administration!). If you've ever come in looking for the beautiful wooden rainbows, organic stuffed animals, handmade felt goods, colorful organic sweaters, or fun and colorful prints on kids clothes, you'll have missed some of them and may have seen that our carefully curated selection has missed a number of our favorites.
We are thankful for everyone who has contributed to our very own corner of wonder over the past few years. For our partner shop, TwoOwls, who has constantly provided versatile and comfortable baby apparel and handmade goods, and whose colorful art prints and stickers have livened our shop more and more over time. For all the local artists who have partnered with us for art walks and holiday markets, who have made us proud to support local art and give it a home for a while. For our neighbors at Chophouse Row, who have shared their space, kept us going with coffee and snacks during those holiday rushes, lent us supplies when we needed them, and made us feel part of a community. And mostly for our customers, for everyone who chooses our tiny Seattle business and who keeps coming back, and for everyone who has stopped in to shop, play, color, get a sticker, or to simply be in awe of this small world of magic and play we created.
What does the future look like for us? - We will be continuing our online shop with more attention and focus. As we regroup and consider that future, we will be looking for what is next, new collaborations and perhaps a new space. We will take time trying to understand what our community needs and how a third place for kids & families could be supportive of those needs.
For now, we are celebrating our last 5 plus years being in this space. Please come by on our last weekend in our Chophouse Row shop. On Saturday January 31st 2026 from 5-7ish we will have a sweet goodbye party. Feel free to drop by anytime in the next week and share stories, memories, and new dreams.
We will also have a moving sale which started yesterday, both online and in-store: from 20% to 70% off merchandise, fixtures, and furniture!
